Tesco Mobile Roam Like Home

With Tesco Mobile, Prepay customers can use their Plan / Service within the EU just like you would at home in Ireland*. This means that if you’re travelling within the EU and want to call/text another EU country or use data you’ll pay the same price as you would at home in Ireland.

New customers will need to pass a basic customer authenticity check before being eligible to use their allowances while roaming in the EU. To pass an authenticity check all a customer needs to do is sign into my.tescomobile.ie or register a Tesco Clubcard to a Tesco Mobile account.

Tesco Mobile standard Prepay out of bundle rates while roaming in the EU will be the same as those charged at home in Ireland – see table below:

What are my bundle allowances while travelling within the EU?

If you have bundle allowances on your Prepay plan your allowances while EU roaming will be the same as at home, except when there is a fair usage policy applied for data. Our new Simply Prepay plan is listed below as an example.

When you use part of your allowance while EU roaming it will be taken from your total monthly allowance. For example if you have 15GB of data available before you roam and you use 1GB while EU roaming your total monthly balance when you return home will be 14GB.

If you are on a different plan and want to double check your allowance, free text the word ROAM to 1744 and you will receive an automated response with your allowance. This number is free to text from Ireland or the EU. You can also login to our Self-Serve online website my.tescomobile.ie   or through the Mobile App for Android and iOS to check your balances.

You will also receive an automated text with your roaming allowances when you arrive at your roaming destination. What’s more, we’ll notify you by text message when you reach 80% of your allowance and 100% of your allowance.

*Fair usage policy applied to data allowance. The EU data roaming fair usage limits have been calculated in accordance with the guidelines provided by the European Commission – see www.tescomobile.ie/eu-roaming-regulation.

What is it going to cost me if I go over my bundle allowances?

Calls, texts and data outside of bundle allowance while EU roaming will be charged at the same standard out of bundle rates as you would be charged at home.

For example, from Jan 1 2019 a customer on our Simply Prepay plan has a data allowance of 9.03GB while roaming within the EU. If this customer uses more than their roaming data allowance while roaming within the EU, yet remains within their domestic data allowance they will be charged an additional fee* until they reach the domestic allowance of this plan which is 20GB. If the customer exceeds the 20GB domestic allowance they will be charged the same standard out of bundle rates as you would be charged at home.

*additional fee is equal to the regulated wholesale rate for data services. The current wholesale rate is 0.74c incl VAT per MB, charged on a per MB basis and from 1st January 2019 will reduce to 0.55c (incl VAT) per MB.

What if I don’t have a bundle allowance and just want to use my credit?

Calls, texts or data usage outside of bundle allowances while EU roaming will be charged at the same standard out of bundle rates as you would be charged at home.

For example; a customer with no bundle allowances who plans to roam within the EU using all of their credit for data would get 50MBs if they have €5 credit available (50MB at 10 cent per MB). See more examples in the table below:

Is there a maximum amount that I can be charged for data roaming?

To protect you against excess data roaming bills we have set a limit on the amount of credit that you can use while roaming. Your limit is set at €61.50. Therefore you cannot be charged more than this for roaming unless you remove the limit.

Once you reach 80% of this limit we will send you a text to let you know. When you reach 100% you will get another text message. At that point your phone will not work for any billable activity such as an outbound call, text message or data usage.

If you want to remove this limit simply text REMCAP to 1744 the cap will be removed for the remainder of the month.
