Getting Started

  • Open your Tesco Mobile SIM pack, and 'snap' your new SIM card from its protective card.
  • Open the back of your phone, remove your old SIM card and pop in your Tesco Mobile SIM card in its place. The user guide you got with your phone will show you how to do this.
  • Now turn on your phone.
  • You will be asked to enter your PIN number. Your 4 digit PIN number is printed the outside of your SIM Welcome Pack.
  • Key in your PIN number and then press 'OK'. Now you're all set and ready to go!

Please note that if you have purchased a Tesco Mobile phone the sim will already be installed in the phone.

You can change the default PIN number that comes with your SIM pack to something that is easier for you to remember. How you change it will vary according to your handset but for most phones you can try:

  • Select 'Menu', then 'Settings', then 'Security', then 'Access Codes' and then 'Change PIN Codes'
  • You will be asked to enter the original PIN code (as printed on the label on your SIM Welcome Pack) and then to enter your new PIN code.
  • Confirm your Pin by entering it a second time when prompted

To remove your PIN number:

  • Select 'Menu', then 'Settings', then 'Security', then 'PIN code request'.
  • Change to "off"
  • You will be asked to enter the current PIN code to complete the request

If you're trying to use your old phone and it doesn't work, it may be 'locked' to your previous network. If it is, you may get error message "Invalid Sim" or "Phone restricted" with Tesco Mobile sim card in the phone. You will need to contact your previous network quoting your phone IMEI, which can be found on the back of the phone behind the battery. Please note that all networks will have terms & conditions for unlocking phones.

Check the user guide you got with your phone to see if your phone is compatible with this service. If your phone has WAP/Internet or MMS capability you can download your internet settings over the air directly to your phone. Please ensure that you select your model of phone as some phones handle settings in different ways:

You will receive an SMS for Internet and one for MMS with configuration settings, you will need to accept these when you are asked and you should be up and running.

There are always times when you can't take a call - or you don't want to! To set up your voicemail you can do so by dialling 171. You will be prompted to enter a PIN number. This is to secure your voicemail and should be 4 digits.

Once this is complete you will need to activate call diverts on your handset. This allows your phone to divert a call to your voicemail if call is not answered, phone is busy or you are out of coverage.

How you set this up will vary according to your handset but for most phones you can try:

  • Select 'Menu', then 'Settings', then 'Call', then 'Call Diverts'
  • Choose the options you would like regarding calls being diverted to voicemail.
  • Your Voicemail box number is basically your existing number with a '5' added after the mobile prefix. E.g. Number 0891234567 then you would enter the number +3538951234567.

You can also use the below short code to set up diverts:

Dial **004*08x5xxxxxxx# & Call, the x's mark where you number would go as stated above.

Once your voicemail is set up

  • You will be notified by text when you receive a new voicemail message
  • To listen to your messages, dial 171, and press the 'send' button (this usually has a green symbol on it) and then press 1 to listen to your messages

If you would prefer not to have your voicemail service switched on, you can turn it off from your handset. The steps for this will vary depending on what phone you have but for most phones you can take the following steps;

  • Go to the menu on your phone and select settings.
  • Then choose 'Call', then 'Call Divert' and then 'Cancel all Diverts'.

If you have any difficulties, give us a call on 089 420 0000 or 1749 from your Tesco Mobile (calls cost 20c regardless of duration) and we can arrange for your voicemail service to be turned off.

When you first call your voicemail, you will be asked to choose a PIN number for your voicemail. You will need to use this PIN number if you are checking your voicemail messages from a landline number, for example. We recommend that you choose a number that is easy to remember, perhaps the same number as your mobile phone PIN.
